Romans 5:8-11 ESV

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Isn’t that amazing?! When we had nothing to offer and were running in the opposite direction, Jesus died for us. The blood of Jesus is truly the only thing that defines us. By His blood, we’ve been justified. Our relationship with God is now reconciled by the all-sufficient payment of His son’s life. The righteousness of Christ is now attributed to us as believers, and we can walk in freedom and confidence because of the grace of Jesus Christ.

“This is my testimony from death to life

Cause grace rewrote my story, I’ll testify

By Jesus Christ the Righteous, I’m justified

This is my testimony!”

Our stories are all different. Our testimonies are varied in experience, struggle, and pursuit of meaning and purpose. However, as believers, our stories have one thing in common. They have been rewritten by grace. While we were dead in our sins, Christ made us alive together by grace (Eph. 2:5). This is what binds us together more than anything else! It’s a powerful thing to sing and declare together. No matter what I’m facing, whether doubt, struggle, or trial, I know that my story has been written and redeemed. We should never get over the miracle of our salvation!

Philippians 1:6 ESV

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

John 14:12 ESV

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.”

These cornerstone scriptures give us two points of hope. First, our God will finish what he started. Our salvation is final, and there is nothing that can happen to us and nothing we can do to change it. Second, we’re promised that greater things are still to come. Not only do we have hope for the future, but we can be expectant for the God of miracles to do even greater things than He’s done before.

“If I’m not dead, You’re not done

Greater things are still to come”

He’s rewritten our stories, but our stories don’t end there. There is purpose to every moment and hope for the moments to come. We have confidence and joy in knowing that our God is still working and making all things work together for our good.

This is our testimony. The ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ has defeated death. We’ve been justified and declared righteous by his redefining and all-sufficient blood. We are no longer separated in our relationship with God, and we can draw near in confidence by the finished work of our great high priest. Knowing that our God finishes what he starts, our salvation is final and secure. We have hope for tomorrow because of the greater things promised, and yet to come. What an incredible reminder of the gospel, and the hope that we have in Christ. May we continue to sing and share our testimonies, reminding ourselves and others that our God has done incredible things, and that He is not done!
