Never Stop Singing (Psalm 95) Bass Guitar

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;

    let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

    let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

For the Lord is a great God

    and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth;

    the heights of the mountains are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it,

    and his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;

    let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!”

Psalm 95:1-6

Why would God want us to sing? Why would a truly omnipotent and omniscient God beyond every dimension and limitation want us to sing? It’s baffling. Out of all the things a being with ultimate authority could desire, why would He desire our song?

Every time I read scripture inviting us to sing, give praise, and worship, all of those questions come to mind. But what also comes to mind is just the goodness and kindness of the God we have. He loves us so much that he asks for a song! That is so beautiful, convicting, and awe-inspiring to me. How could I not respond with singing?

We were made for worship. All of creation was made for worship. The fingerprints of the divine are on every living and created thing. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). Even the skies tell of this glorious creator.

The evident glory of God revealed through creation inspires worship. The mountains prove His strength, the waters reflect His vastness, and the colors painting the skies at the start and end of every day display His beauty. Every formed thing was made to bring Him praise. I am no different.

“From the greatest depths to the highest heights

Oh, the endless breadth of Your hands

By Your spoken Word, all creation formed

Can we hear You speak again

Come let us sing, come let us shout of Your goodness

Come let us praise; come let us bow down in worship

You are our God, God of salvation

You are the song we’ll never stop singing.”

There’s an invitation for us to come and sing. To bring our joy into His presence. To enter in with thanksgiving, with a grateful heart.

“Come let us worship and bow down…”

Our worship doesn’t end when the music does; it is ultimately submission, knees on the ground. Romans 12:1 gives a particularly devastating definition of worship:

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Sacrifice yourself. 

You don’t see that language too often in many modern worship choruses! 

But we are literally called to this: presenting our lives as a sacrifice to God. He is the only song worth singing. He deserves our praise in the wandering. He deserves our praise in the waiting. He deserves our praise when the storms of life rage. He deserves our praise in times of peace and comfort. He deserves our praise when it’s good. He deserves our praise when it’s not.

He is the only song worth singing. 

A hallelujah that doesn’t come up empty.

The true meaning behind every melody.

Oh, the kindness and goodness of a loving God, that He would want to hear the voices of His children. That, in His love for His people, He sings and rejoices over them (Zeph. 3:17).
